Guelph, Ont. (June 21, 2008) – The Honourable Diane Finley, M.P. for Haldimand-Norfolk and Minister of Immigration and Citizenship, and The Honourable John Baird, M.P. for Ottawa-West Nepean and Minister of the Environment, were in Guelph on Saturday to attend a barbecue fundraiser in support of Federal Conservative Candidate Gloria Kovach.
“Guelph needs Gloria,” Finley told a large crowd of supporters from across Ontario gathered at Exhibition Park in Guelph. Finley said Guelph residents should send Kovach to Ottawa so that the City’s concerns can be heard.
Baird echoed those comments, saying that the caucus is eager to get her to Parliament Hill to help fight against the Liberal carbon tax, which he says will hit the middle class the hardest. “Gloria can be your voice in Ottawa.”
Finley and Baird were among several M.P.s who attended the barbecue, including Wellington-Halton Hills M.P. Michael Chong, Cambridge M.P. Gary Goodyear and Kitchener-Conestogo M.P. Harold Albrecht. Also in attendance were several Conservative candidates from Southwestern Ontario including Peter Braid (Kitchener-Waterloo), Steven Woodworth (Kitchener-Centre, and Ed Holder (London West). Ontario Senator Consiglio Di Nino also attended.
“I’m overwhelmed with the support I have received from MPs and Senator Di Nino. It’s clear Ottawa is already hearing Guelph’s voice,” said Kovach. “I also want to thank the many people who took time out of their busy Saturday to attend our barbecue. It is truly appreciated.”
