Guelph, ON (August 19, 2008) - Prime Minister Stephen Harper, joined by Federal Conservative Candidate Gloria Kovach, told a rally in Kitchener Tuesday that Liberal leader Stephane Dion’s carbon tax plan is not a “Green Shift” but rather a green shaft.
“Mr. Dion’s carbon tax does not even set a target for reducing emissions. Why not? Because the Dion carbon tax plan is not an environmental policy,” Harper told the large crowd of supporters gathered at the Romanian Cultural Centre. “It is just a tax increase disguised as an environmental policy.”
Dion’s carbon tax plan is “a tax grab to pay for Liberal spending promises,” Kovach told supporters, speaking after Prime Minister Harper. “This Prime Minister would never bring in a punitive new tax that would destroy our economy.”
“Because of Prime Minister Harper’s leadership, the federation is stronger, taxes are lower and families are safer,” she added.
