Liberal Frank Valeriote Attacks GST Cut for Guelph Families

Valeriote claims money could be better spent by other politicians instead of Guelph families

GUELPH (July 29, 2008) – Earlier this week Stephane Dion’s Liberal candidate in Guelph, Frank Valeriote attacked the Conservative government’s cut of the GST from 7% to 5%.  Rather, Valeriote argues that instead of having tax cuts for Guelph families the GST savings should instead be passed on to more politicians, “what (the government) should be doing…is better applying that tax to what you and I both know to be very much needed infrastructure money by municipalities” (Guelph Mercury, July 23, 2008).

“This is just another example of how out of touch Frank Valeriote and Stephane Dion are from the hardworking residents of Guelph,” said Conservative candidate Gloria Kovach. “This is typical Liberal party economics, pass money from one politician to other with taxpayers always getting stuck with the bill.”

Increasing the GST back to 7% like the Liberal party advocates would cost the average working family in Guelph almost $900 dollars per year. Not to mention hundreds more on a new car or thousands more on a new home. Not only does Stephane Dion’s Liberals call for a higher GST, don’t forget the Dion Tax Trick which will increase the cost of everything.

“A vote for Frank Valeriote is a vote for Stephane Dion and we know that with Stephane Dion Guelph families will pay more on pretty much everything,” said Kovach. “Voting for Frank Valeriote and Stephane Dion has consequences and the residents of Guelph must ask themselves, are they willing to pay more by voting Liberal?”
