Guelph, Ont., (March 19, 2008) – Prime Minister Stephen Harper was in Guelph Wednesday night to lend his support to Gloria Kovach, the City’s Federal Conservative Candidate.
“Guelph is a home of historic firsts,” Harper told a packed room of supporters at the Guelph Place Banquet Hall. “I’m hoping we see another first with the election of the first Conservative member in Parliament since 1993.”
“In this riding you know who that is going to be. She will be the next Conservative candidate for Guelph, with your help - Gloria Kovach.”
Harper did not indicate when a byelection would be held in the City. Guelph Liberal MP Brenda Chamberlain announced her resignation from the House of Commons on March 7th, effective April 7th.
Kovach said she was “honoured that Prime Minister Harper would visit the City of Guelph, and that he would offer his support to my candidacy.”
“While Prime Minister Harper has not yet called a byelection, I’m looking forward to the upcoming campaign. Guelph citizens have a right to be fully represented in Ottawa,” said Kovach.
