GUELPH ON (Aug 2, 2008) - Today the Gloria Kovach Campaign participated in the World's Longest BBQ. The event also served as a roundtable meeting with local agricultural leaders which was hosted by the Hon. Gerry Ritz, Minister of Agriculture, and Gloria Kovach.
"Guelph has a strong agricultural tradition, and is the epicentre for the Ontario Agribusiness Industry", said Gloria Kovach, Conservative candidate for Guelph. "I was glad to be able to host so many local industry leaders along with Minister Ritz".
Several industry luminaries had kind words for Minister Ritz, and the Conservative Government's record on agricultural issues.
"I really appreciate the support that the Minister and this government have given to the Adaptation Council", said Fred Wagner, Director of the Ontario Corn Producers' Association. "This support allows local entrepreneurs to really get things going. It's a great example of Federal funding making things work locally.
Terry Daynard, of the Ontario BioFuel Council also had good things to say about the government's performance. "Gerry has been a a big champion of new agricultural products. This government moved ahead with the mandatory 5% ethanol requirements, he just came after it and made it happen. He's a great supporter of renewable fuels, and a lot of the initial drive for renewable fuels came from Guelph."
The BBQ menu featured local products including pork tenderloin marinated in maple syrup and Ontario Icewine, and locally grown corn.
