Having already made spending promises that will plunge Canada at least $62.5 billion deeper into debt, Stéphane Dion realizes he would have to impose this new Dion Carbon Tax, in order to make ends meet.
To date, Mr. Dion is refusing to provide any additional details about his massive new Dion Carbon Tax.
What Canadians do know, however, is frightening enough.
In order to provide Mr. Dion with the money he desperately needs, the Dion Carbon Tax will have to be the single largest tax hike in Canadian history.
Should Mr. Dion succeed in imposing this massive new tax there is no going back. Canadians will be stuck paying higher taxes forever.
By hitting people on their bills and expenses, the Dion Carbon Tax will hurt the middle and lower income families the hardest.
While wealthy Liberal elites can easily afford this cost of a carbon tax, it will be truck drivers, cabbies, commuters and everyday Canadian families who will be stuck paying even higher prices at the pump.
Seniors and others on fixed incomes will be left struggling to pay their skyrocketing home heating and electricity bills.
Struggling manufacturing businesses will be pushed past the breaking point and thousands of jobs will be put at risk.
And working families will feel an even greater pinch at the grocery store as the higher shipping costs from the Dion Carbon Tax will drive prices higher than ever.
It is time for Mr. Dion to stop trying to conceal the truth. It is time for answers.
How much will he increase the price of gas? How much will he increase the electricity and heating bills of seniors and everyday working families?
Why, less than two years ago, did Mr. Dion campaign against a carbon tax saying it was a “bad policy”, but is today trying to sneak in an even larger carbon tax by stealth?
And why, in a time of already record gas prices, should Canadians have to pay a massive permanent new job-killing tax, all because Mr. Dion cannot set priorities?
