Today, Prime Minister Stephen Harper continues his diplomatic tour of Europe by travelling to Germany where he will meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel and deliver a speech at the United Nations Conference on Biodiversity in Bonn.
The Prime Minister will use these forums to further advance the Conservative Government’s strong record of protecting the environment.
Thanks to strong Conservative leadership, for the first time ever Canada has a real greenhouse gas reduction plan that includes concrete targets for all major industries.
This is a far cry from what Canadians saw from previous Liberal governments. Failed former Environment Minister Stéphane Dion was quick to make promises and give speeches but failed to deliver any real action or real results. As a result of Liberal neglect, Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions actually rose 32% above the Liberals' own promised Kyoto targets. Liberal Deputy leader Michael Ignatieff perhaps phrased it best when he chastised Mr. Dion, saying “Stéphane, we didn’t get it done.”
The time for Liberal talk has long since passed. Instead Canadians and others around the world deserve to see real measurable action.
With the strong, decisive leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Conservative Government, Canada is finally speaking with a strong, independent voice on the world stage. Canada is once again a country of big goals at home and abroad. And Prime Minister Stephen Harper is clearly the right leader to get the job done.
Real Leadership. Real Action. Real Results.
