Stephane Dion's comments demonstrate how out-of-touch Liberals have become.
Yesterday Liberal leader Stephane Dion said on CBC Television that Canadians will benefit from his carbon tax only if you are a “good citizen”.
That is pretty rich coming from a politician with a taxpayer-provided home and a taxpayer-provided car.
You're not a bad citizen because you need to drive to work.
You're not a bad citizen because you have to shuttle your kids around from school to home to soccer practice.
You're not a bad citizen because you have to heat your home with home heating oil.
And you're not a bad citizen because your groceries were transported by truck.
The Leader of the Opposition's comments suggesting there will be a Canada of good citizens and a Canada of bad citizens smacks of arrogance and elitism.
And the comments demonstrate just how disconnected the Liberal Party has become from the day-to-day concerns of ordinary people who are struggling with increases in the cost-of-living.
The public has a choice. We can move forward together - helping families and seniors at a time of rising prices - or we can impose a permanent new tax on everything that will destroy jobs and drive up the cost of gas, electricity and everything else people buy.
It's a clear choice.
A big choice.
And one that we will make as Canadians.
