Stephane Dion today introduced his costly carbon tax plan, but while Liberals across Canada sing its praises, Guelph Liberal candidate Frank Valeriote stands opposed to sections of Dion's plan.
When asked about the possibility of a carbon tax last year, Frank Valeriote said he opposed several of the very initiatives contained in Dion's carbon tax plan.
From the Guelph Mercury, on March 20, 2007: "He said the government shouldn't help industries invest in green technologies. Instead, the government should place a cap on greenhouse gas emissions, Valeriote said."
Dion's carbon tax plan, his electoral centrepiece, contains several incentives for industries to invest in green technologies... the sort that Valeriote said he opposes. Which raises the question, does Valeriote support or oppose Dion's plan?
Despite all their efforts to tell Canadians otherwise, the Liberal carbon tax will increase the cost of everyday goods... even the food we eat.
The Liberals carbon tax will increase the cost of transporting your food, adding the carbon tax to your grocery bill.
The cost of heating your home in the winter will be going up, as the carbon tax applies to all forms of home heating, whether Natural Gas, propane, or heating oil.
The cost of travel will be going up, as the carbon tax will apply to every flight you take. At Air Canada, 2000 jobs were just cut due to rising fuel costs... how many more will be cut due to Dion's carbon tax?
The Liberals promised they wouldn't add the carbon tax to gasoline, but that's where Dion's "Tax Shift" gets "shifty". Though they won't add to the cost of gas itself, Dion's carbon tax will cost companies more to get your gas to the pump... which they'll pass on to YOU in the price at the pump.
No matter how they try to "shift" the numbers, your daily cost of living will go up with Dion's carbon tax plan. The tax breaks that the Liberals are proposing simply don't add up, and won't cover the increases on your hydro, your heat, or your grocery bills.
Frank Valeriote's leader, Stephane Dion, has today introduced a plan that Frank opposes, and that will cost you more. With prices going up on everything else, can you afford Stephane Dion?
